Wrexham AFC - Football in the Community

The Racecourse Community Foundation is the charity and Football in the Community arm of Wrexham AFC. Our vision and aim are to utilise football, other sports and physical activities to improve the health and well-being of individuals in Wrexham and North Wales, particularly in respect of children and young people, those with disabilities and those disadvantaged and isolated from community activities. Here are just some of the programmes we deliver to assist us in achieving the above:

Schools programmes

Our staff regularly deliver various programmes in schools across Wrexham, Denbighshire and Flintshire including the Premier League Primary Stars programme and the National League Trust girls only football programme.

The Premier League Primary Stars programme involves our staff delivering the following;

  • Literacy and Numeracy Intervention programmes

  • PE lessons

  • Teacher mentoring

  • SEN provision

  • Health and well-being

  • Collapsed curriculum days

  • PHSE assemblies

  • Girls only after school clubs

  • Lunch time football clubs

Alongside this, our Girls Only Football Programme involves our staff delivering lunchtime sessions, after school sessions and PE sessions in both primary and high schools in order to attract more girls to the sport and also to provide more playing opportunities for girls in the local area. We are heavily involved in assisting local grassroots teams to create girls’ sections which will enable more girls to progress from the school sessions into teams outside of the school environment therefore continuing their development.

Free Girls Only Football Taster Sessions are currently available to primary schools across Wrexham and North East Wales. Please contact Gemma Owen for further details: gemma.owen@wrexhamafc.wst.org.uk
