Nightingale House Hospice - leaflet distribution case study
“We saw a noticeable uplift in Lottery sign-ups and interest in ‘Leaves of Love’ following the distribution. It was exactly the push we needed to reach potential new supporters.”
Raising campaign awareness with EssentialsMAG leaflet distribution - a case study
Nightingale House Hospice is a warm, locally rooted charity providing specialist palliative care completely free of charge to patients and their families across Wrexham, Flintshire, East Denbighshire, and beyond. From in-patient care and rehabilitation to family support, wellbeing programmes, and guidance for professionals, the hospice team supports people during some of life’s most challenging moments, blending clinical expertise with compassion, dignity, and holistic care.
A wider reach
To help raise awareness of its important campaigns, Nightingale House partnered with EssentialsMAG for leaflet distributions across the magazine’s 15,500-home circulation, covering Wrexham and nearby Cheshire villages. This approach allowed the Hospice to reach areas beyond its usual supporters and make sure its message landed with the intended audience.
One leaflet focused on the Nightingale House Lottery, a weekly prize draw that gives supporters the chance to win up to £2,500 for just £1 a week. Around 57% of the proceeds go directly to patient care, helping to fund roughly a month of the Hospice’s vital services each year. Another highlighted the Leaves of Love campaign, where supporters can dedicate a tree in memory of a loved one in the Nightingale Woodland at Lodge Valley Park. For a donation of about £30, each tree creates a lasting tribute, regenerates the Stori Brymbo heritage site, and supports the Hospice’s care for patients and families, whilst providing a peaceful place for reflection and hope in the local community.
Raising campaign awareness
“Working with Vicky and EssentialsMAG made everything so much easier for us,” says Sarah Povey, Corporate and Donor Relationship Manager at Nightingale House Hospice. “We designed and printed the leaflets, and Vicky took care of collection and distribution. For an organisation with limited resources, finances and time, it removed all the stress, and we knew our message would reach beyond our usual audience.”
Sarah added that the leaflet campaigns had an immediate impact. “Whilst difficult to measure exactly, we saw a noticeable uplift in Lottery sign-ups and interest in ‘Leaves of Love’ following the distribution. It was exactly the push we needed to reach potential new supporters.”
Beyond the practical benefits, Sarah values the personal touch and is passionate about building strong relationships within the community - and giving back to the businesses that continue to support Nightingale House Hospice. She says Vicky perfectly embodies that spirit. “I see Vicky as someone who I immediately felt comfortable with - supportive, approachable, and generous with her time. When I was new to fundraising, she took the time to get to know me and understand our work, which made such a difference. It’s that genuine kindness and willingness to help that makes working with EssentialsMAG such a pleasure.”
GPS-tracked distribution
Vicky Heathfield, Owner of EssentialsMAG, says: “Our GPS-tracked distribution ensures every issue reaches homes across Wrexham and surrounding villages. We only include a maximum of three leaflets per issue, so businesses and charities like Nightingale House Hospice get clear, focused visibility without overlap. It’s always a pleasure to support such a valued local organisation.”
Sarah plans to continue using EssentialsMAG for targeted campaigns to raise awareness of initiatives that might otherwise go unnoticed. “For any local business or charity looking to reach the right people efficiently and effectively, I can’t recommend EssentialsMAG enough. It’s a trusted local magazine with a strong support base. I’d highly recommend it to any organisation wanting to reach their audience effectively.”
